The officially authorized re-release of the 'Neu! 4' album, with a different track listing and remixes or new versions of many of the songs, by Michael Rother himself.

Neu! was a band formed by Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother after their split from Kraftwerk in the early '70s.

'86' is the officially authorized re-release of their 'Neu! 4' album, with a different track listing and remixes or new versions of many of the songs, by Michael himself.

'Neu! 4' was recorded & mixed between Oct. '85 & Apr. '86 in Germany. It was the first time Klaus and Michael had entered a studio together since '75 - unfortunately, the sessions were not completed and the planned album was abandoned. However, during the 1990s, the first 3 Neu! albums were made available on CD by a dubious label who specialized in illegal reissues of otherwise unavailable Krautrock albums. They also released the tapes of the 'Neu! 4' sessions.

Klaus, "in an act of despair", released an "official" version of 'Neu! 4' on a Japanese label in '95, in a response to the bootlegs, but Michael claims he had no input and no knowledge of the reissue and certainly didn't give his consent.

Klaus sadly died in 2008. However, in 2010 Michael announced he'd arrived at an arrangement with Klaus's heir to reissue 'Neu! 4' - but almost completely reworked, by Michael, from the original multi-track & master tapes.
