Almost forty years separate Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) from the Violin Concerto - the former still influenced by the idiom of Brahms and Wagner, the latter deriving from the richness of that later period when Schoenberg managed to combine a multiplicity of approaches within his twelve-note system. Between post-Romantic twilight and 'classical' rigour, Isabelle Faust, Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony offer us an extraordinarily lively interpretation of some of the most remarkable pages in twentieth-century musical literature.

"The pairing underlines the composer's extraordinary journey out of tonality, and Faust delivers the most beautifully played account - gritty, intense - with Harding. It's not easy listening, but both musicians make a case for the concerto as one of the 20th century's greatest" Sunday Times

"As in her exceptional 2012 account of the Berg concerto with Claudio Abbado, Faust brings a fabulous range of colour and expressive nuance to this music, and Daniel Harding matches her understanding in the way he teases out the wiry orchestral textures around her violin lines." The Guardian Five Stars

"A sparkling treasure with the potential to change your understanding of Schoenberg's music." MusicWeb recommended
