Stan Getz started out playing swing, until he heard Charlie Parker. He then tried his hand at be-bop, before moving towards a soft, mellow and casual brand of jazz influenced by Lester Young. He made his own mix of these different styles in the early fifties and thus produced an original, inspired and sophisticated style, which his soft, warm sound brought to a whole new level. This made him one of the biggest saxophone players of the cool era and an outstanding example of an impressionist musician.
