The beautifully clear, analogue, direct recording to tape that is reproduced on this LP really does justice to the septuagenarian Killer. Notwithstanding the considerable merits of both of Jerry Lee's previous 21st century releases, the star-studded but 'heavily produced' studio sets "Last Man Standing" and "Mean Old Man", this is the real deal. Those multi-layered mega-star duet collaborations took years to put together, but here you get what JLL is all about; get him on stage sat at a piano, put four sympathetic and extremely capable musicians behind him, give him free rein for 45 minutes, and there you have it; the definitive 'third age' JLL album, on "Third Man" records, itself arguably the spiritual successor to "Sun". Jack White and JLL - maybe the perfect combination for this day and age!
