The first release from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales's inaugural Composer in Residence, Guto Pryderi Puw. Puw studied composition with composers John Pickard, Andrew Lewis and Pwyll ap Siôn. He first made an impact as a composer in 1995 when he won the Composer's Medal at the National Eisteddfod (and again in 1997). Since then he has received many commissions and performances while being much in demand as a composer at various festivals in the UK and abroad. His music is regularly broadcast on radio and television. He is the Chairman and Artistic Director of the Bangor New Music Festival, which has been running since 2000.

In 2005 his orchestral work, a BBC Radio 3 commission, 'Reservoirs', was nominated in the Large-Scale Composition category of the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, and in February 2006 he was appointed as the first Resident Composer with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales to compose three new orchestral commissions. His 'Concerto for Oboe' won the BBC Radio 3 'Listeners Award' category at the 2007 British Composer Awards and the Proms commissioned piece '...unless I open the door...' won BBC Music Magazine's 'Best Proms Premiere' for its performance in 2007. In 2010 he won an award from the Thomas Ellis Memorial Fund to record his orchestral music on the Signum label. He is currently working on a concerto for violinist Madeleine Mitchell for 2014 and his opera Y Tŵr ('The Tower') commissioned by Music Theatre Wales for 2016.

A dual-language release in both Welsh and English, this release features a range of orchestral works inspired by stories and landscapes of Wales.

" Presented with great clarity by the orchestra under Jac van Steen, they show Puw revelling in the opportunity to write challengingly for such a proficient band, though at times that enthusiasm does get the better of him...[Reservoirs] is the most impressive, most achieved work here." (Guardian)
