Like its predecessor, 'Player Piano' was recorded at Hawke's home studio in rural New Jersey, and largely eschewing modern beats in favour of drums that sound like The Kinks' 60s records, 'Player Piano' incorporates modern R'n'B, 50s doo wop and krautrock influences, with nods to Aphex Twin throughout.
