Patience isn't a virtue associated with rock'n'roll, but in the case of the Dukes it has been the key to their recent success.
Formed in 2003, this is no "overnight success" - they won MTV's Kickstart Competition, have supported Gomez and INXS on their NZ tours, toured as support to Dave Dobbyn, Gin Wigmore, Midnight Youth and Th' Dudes, and even had a song played in the popular US tv series 'Brothers And Sisters'.
That their single "Vampires" was released as the world entered a Twilight/True Blood obsession was a freakish coincidence - songwriter Matt Barus wrote the song using vampires as a metaphor for materialism. It has been in the airplay charts for over fourteen months, reached the NZ Top Ten, and has achieved gold sale status. The video also won the viewer voted Juice TV Best Video award 2010.
The single "Self Control" followed, then the "Settle Down" EP - featuring stripped back versions of the songs they performed as guests of Dave Dobbyn on the Acoustic Church Tour. The EP entered the NZ Top 40 at number 16.
So, their 'Still Life' album can justifiably be described as much anticipated!
