Originally only available in Japan, 'EleKtriK' was / is the audio release of the DVD 'Eyes Wide Open', which features the mighty King Crimson "in concert" during their 2003 tour.
King Crimson's 2008 U.S. tour was billed as "Celebrating 40 years" in recognition of the fact that the band has entered its fortieth year of engaging with an audience, whether via recordings or concerts. Of course there have been periods, occasionally lengthy ones, when the band has been placed on hiatus but few bands have proved to be as enduring. Fewer still can lay claim to such a musically diverse or influential output. With 'The Power to Believe' released & greeted enthusiastically by fans + critics alike, King Crimson spent much of the next four months of 2003 performing the material with lengthy tours of the U.S.A., Japan & Europe. One of the Japanese concerts was filmed and recorded for DVD release. King Crimson - a band always at home in the concert setting - delivered in abundance on that particular tour with John Bungey of The Times calling it "...their best live set" since the band had re-emerged in 1994. Japanese fans demanded a live CD release of the DVD concert recording and 'EleKtriK' (2003), the stereo audio mix of the material was issued exclusively for that market.
In the years that have passed, the album has appeared as an expensive import. Requests to release the album outside of Japan have been frequent, but it was felt better to reserve the release of the title by DGM until such time as it could be placed in context with the DGM reissues of 'Level Five'; 'Happy With What You Have to be Happy With' & 'The Power to Believe'. This release is the first time the album has been issued outside of Japan and its first release at mid-price.
