Pulling together some of Welli's favourite musicians and commanding the 4-string like you've never heard it before, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra's merry strummers have become a sell-out outfit!
Their live show features sing-a-long favourites, blazing solos, stunning dress sense, sparkling harmonies and comic banter, as they faithfully reproduce hit songs regardless of genre, including The White Stripes, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart, Leonard Cohen, The Muttonbirds, Split Enz, DD Smash and more.
'The Heartache EP' is their debut release, featuring versions of songs by Kings of Leon, Crowded House and Bonnie Tyler, alongside NZ "campfire" favourites "New Zealand Christmas Tree" and "Hoki Mai".
The group are 12-strong and include the likes of Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords), Age Pryor, Daniel Yeabsley (Twinset and more), Gemma Gracewood, Andy Morley-Hall among their number.
The WIUO has played venues across NZ and their version of Andre3000's "Heya" was a youtube hit.
