Manuela Wiesler was born in Brazil but grew up in Vienna, where she graduated as a flautist in 1971. She undertook further studies under Alain Marion in Paris and under James Galway and Aurèle Nicolet in Switzerland.

She began her career on Iceland, where she lived for ten years. In 1976 she won first prize at the Nordic Chamber Music Competition in Helsinki, and in 1980 she made her breakthrough at the Biennale in Copenhagen. During a three-year stay in Sweden Manuela Wiesler began successful collaborations with Kroumata Percussion Ensemble and the guitarist Göran Söllscher. In 1985 she returned to Vienna, making it her base for extensive travels all over Europe as a solo flautist.

With an ambition to broaden the horizons of her instrument, and her great communicative gifts, Manuela Wiesler inspired many composers to write new works. Her CD 'Manuela plays French Solo Flute Music' (BIS-CD-459) was awarded the Swedish music prize 'Stäm-gaffeln' in 1991.
