Born in Wellington in 1978, Michael Stewart is a concert organist of international standing. He was awarded a First Class Honours degree from the University of Canterbury where he also held the first John Robert Godley Scholarship to Christ Church Cathedral, Christchurch.

He was the recipient of a Dame Malvina Major Arts Excellence Award in 2002, which enabled him to pursue further study in Montreal, Canada. Michael was awarded a McGill Organ Scholarship for study at that prestigious university, where he graduated with a Master of Music degree majoring in organ performance in 2004. Whilst studying at McGill, Michael also held the position of Assistant Organist at The Church of StAndrew and St Paul, which boasts the foremost music programme in the country. He has recorded for the CBC in Canada, and his début CD, Puissant, was very favourably reviewed in the British publication 'Organists Review', and has received muchairplay on Concert FM. Since completing his Master's degree at McGill University, Michael was selected to compete this year at organ competitions in Dublin, Ireland, and in Erfurt, Germany
