"The best funk album of the modern era!"
- iDJ Magazine
"The evolutionary next step… a fusion of styles that will appeal beyond the funk crowd. Critical acclaim and popular appeal - it's a fine line, but I think the Bamboos are walking it."
- 3D World
Once more one of the southern hemisphere's finest funk fiends step into the fray to make you shake your trousers… 'Rawville' is is the second album from The Bamboos and sets them up for legendary status!
While still embracing the deep raw organ-based funk they're so well known for, 'Rawville' is more song based than their stormin' debut 'Step It Up', and features vocals from Alice Russell, Tyra Hammond {Opensouls, The Tornadoes} and Ohmega Watts.
The band fuse more sounds and styles coming with traditional instrumental heavy hitters, hip hop funk party joints and soulful reflections, in taking their legendarily party-rockin' styles to the next level.
The Bamboos took a larger horn section into the studio for this album, so the horns are thicker and more experimental in terms of harmonies. You'll hear influences from the JB's, Alice Clark and early Kool and The Gang coming through on the arrangements.
The Australian funk six piece are big funk collectors and inspired by artists such as The Meters, Mickey and the Soul Generation, Jimmy Smith and Reuben Wilson, but they bring a contemporary Deep Funk sound to the table too.
"Get in the Scene", the first single from the new album released, is a perfect example of the diversity of styles in their new work. The single is funk and hip hop fusion with lyrics from Ohmega Watts. Lance Ferguson aka Lanu, guitarist and bandleader of The Bamboos, has always been a big fan and was pleased when he found out Ohmega always played The Bamboos in his DJ sets!
NZers may know them better as the Quantic Soul Orchestra when Alice Russell and Quantic blew into town for a pair of incendiary shows for the Heineken Green Room Sessions a couple of years ago.
Smokin' hot soulful funk and funky soul from some of the hottest practitioners doin' the do right now! Essential.
"…without doubt, Australia has one of the best deep funk outfits in the business in The Bamboos."
