Yehudi Menuin's star student, David Garrett, reached the pinnacle of the international classical world by the time he was a teenager. Yehudi Menuin's star student reached the pinnacle of the international classical world by the time he was a teenager. Violin studies continued in New York, this time with Itzhak Perlman while discovering his own creativity with composition. Then a triumphant 'Nokia Night Of The Proms' stadium tour transformed his musical vision.

Now David brings contemporary violin playing to a new level and shows what can be done with the instrument. The worlds of film, musicals, Metallica, core classical favourites and David's imagination come together as he composes, arranges and produces his debut album on Decca. 'This is the first album where I'm in charge. The producing, the arranging, the composing, it's totally my project.'

David came to Decca wanting to create an album going beyond classical boundaries and incorporating all his musical loves - R&B, pop, classical, and especially rock. He also wanted to stretch his composing muscles after graduating from Juilliard with a double degree in Violin (where he studied with Itzhak Perlman) and Composition.

The album features classic tracks from the worlds of film and musicals, an orchestrated Metallica track, three original tracks by David and of course classical favourites. The title 'Free' says it all!
