M Violence & offensive languageDaniel Daréus, a successful international conductor, is lonely, miserable and exhausted. After suffering a breakdown, he interrupts his career to return, alone, to the village of his childhood where his fame makes him the object of curiosity, fascination and suspicion. When he is asked to "offer a bit of good advice" to the small church choir he begins to rediscover his long-lost passion for music and a sense of belonging. However, his success with the choir threatens the town's status quo, and Daniel soon finds himself surrounded by enemies. Daniel's life, and the lives of the people of Norrland, will never be the same.
Oscar nominated in 2004, this Swedish drama struck a chord with New Zealand audiences. After opening in theatres on the 26th Jan 2006 it went on to play for over 52 weeks, considering most films struggle to play past 8 weeks it really is something rather special.
