There's a basic truth about homecooking: jazz and cooking aren't so different. In both it's important that the correct selection of ingredients are knowingly added according to taste so that the result is more than the sum of its parts. And of course improvisation also plays an enormously important role in the kitchen. And so the idea for 'Homecooking: Soul Food' came to fruition: an elaborately bound cook book with a collection of recipes from musical gourmets as well as professional chefs from the Jazzanova scene.

'Homecooking: Soul Food' is not just a cook book - oh no - but also a compilation CD, where Jazzanova have picked out a string of downbeat pearls from the Sonar Kollektiv catalogue, including tracks from Fat Freddy's Drop, Deyampert, Meitz, Clara Hill and Georg Levin, with exclusive tracks from Leon Ware and the Slapped Eyeballers; the perfect backdrop for a sensory stimulating evening - not just something to fill the pauses between conversations.

After all, soul food on the plate needs soul food for the ears - and there's plenty of that here.

Back from the turntable to the kitchen, the recipes come from the likes of Roskow Kretchman [Jazzanova], Rainer Truby, Mrs Wiedemann [Mother of Ame], Sonar Kollektiv employees and of course, Dobie Blaze [Fat Freddy's Drop], whose 'Kiss Da Cook' cooking episode where he makes Cockles Galicia, is included as a bonus movie clip!

So 'Homecooking: Soul Food' is not just a Sonar Kollektiv compilation dressed up as a cook book - it's as much a cookbook in its own right, but one which comes with the perfect background music.
