This soccer movie, set in the decadent 1970s, features soul and disco songs from some of the biggest groups of the era (Donna Summer, Kool & The Gang, Love Unlimited Orchestra, James Brown, Marlena Shaw and The Commodores).

'Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the New York Cosmos' is a richly layered documentary released just prior to the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It chronicles the New York Cosmos soccer team and its existence during the decadent 1970s.

Through random, ego-driven and impulsive decisions, the team's flamboyant 'larger than life' players (Pele, Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto) and executives (Ahmet Ertegun, Steve Ross, then President of Warner Communications) made a hit success of `soccer' US-style with a fan base including everyone from the fashion, music (Mick Jagger), political (Henry Kissenger) and business worlds only to see it all capitulate in the early '80s.

The music is very prominent in the film throughout and features soul and disco songs from some of the biggest groups of the era (Donna Summer, Kool & The Gang, Love Unlimited Orchestra, James Brown, Marlena Shaw and The Commodores).
