A new governess finds herself fighting for the souls of her two charges with the ghosts of former servants, intent on winning the children for themselves. Britten's interpretation of a Henry James' ghost story is given a chillingly atmospheric production which highlights the sinister undercurrents of these twisted relationships. Directed by Luc Bondy and conducted by Daniel Harding this production enjoyed a huge success at the 2001 Aix-en-Provence Festival.
