Aram Khachaturian is one of the most vivid, tuneful and colourful composers of the 20th century. His music is deeply rooted in the folklore of his native Armenia and the exotic beauty of his musical themes and rich orchestral writing made him internationally famous. The Spartacus Suite in particular demonstrates his style: sumptuous orchestral textures and colouristic vividness created with tuneful and primitive vigour.

Khachaturian's ballets contains some of the most famous classical music in the repertoire - from the exciting Sabre Dance to the romantically charged music from Spartacus, which was made famous by its use in the TV series The Onedin Line.

Neeme Järvi's performances are sonic spectaculars, bringing out all the vibrant colour and sumptuous tunes of this striking music.

"Jarvi and the RSNO clearly enjoy the music's tunefulness and primitive vigor"
