[ Music on CD / CD ]

Release Date: Thursday 25 October 1990

Their lucky seventh album, 'Starfish' took The Church to a new level of creativity with beautifully arranged songs - including the hauntingly elegant "Under The Milky Way".

"The Church formed in 1980 as a '60s-inspired neo-psychedelic pop group and went on to craft their own unique and distinctive style. The Australian band has released several exceptional albums - their refined and intricate music (distinguished by bassist Steve Kilbey's mordant tenor, guitarists Marty Willson-Piper's and Peter Koppes' understated playing, and the melodic pulse of drummer / producer Tim Powles) continues to inspire worldwide devotion.

Their lucky seventh album, 'Starfish' was originally released in 1988 and took The Church to a new level of creativity with some beautifully arranged songs. The recording gave them an international hit single - the hauntingly elegant "Under The Milky Way" - and the album sold over a million copies.

There are plenty more highlights too… the harder, rhythmic "Reptile", the enigmatic, mood-setting opening track "Destination", and the edgy rock number "Spark". Guest artist, David Lindley plays some lovely mandolin on the guitar-laden "Antenna" while the closing piece "Hotel Womb" encapsulates the definitive sound of The Church."
