" This glorious, ancient music, expertly sung and ideally recorded, provides a happy respite in a world that in certain critical areas (except for those lip-synching, hyper-processed, tonally challenged pop stars) hasn't really changed much in 500 years."
- ClassicsToday.com

" The sheer skill of the Orlando Consort leaves one speechless: everything is immaculately tuned, balanced and phrased."
- Gramophone

In 1502 Archduke Philip the Fair, founder of the mighty Hapsburg Dynasty, traveled from the Netherlands to Toledo in Spain, where he met the Spanish Catholic monarchs in an epic political encounter. Philip brought with him his famous retinue of musicians and this program recreates some of the remarkable musical performances that were heard at the gathering. The event featured composers from two of Europe's most important musical nations - Penalosa, Anchieta and Escobar from the Spanish side and La Rue, Agricola and Josquin Desprez from the Low Countries. Formed in 1988 by the Early Music Centre of Great Britain, the Orlando Consort has rapidly achieved a reputation as one of the most expert and consistently challenging groups performing repertoire from the years 1050 to 1500.
