'...Gabriel Chmura has a demostrable feel for the fine-honed intensity which chracterizes Weinberg's thinking. On the basis of its first instalment, the, this traversal of his symphonies is set to be a rewarding one.'
International Record Review

'Weinberg wrote 22 Symphonies, and if this disc is an indication of what is to come, then Chandos' complete cycle will be a landmark.'
The Independent

'These are superb and passionately idiomatic performances in very good sound.'
BBC Music Magazine

As well as being the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra's Music Director since 2001, Gabriel Chmura is a regular guest conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and L'Orchestre philharmonique de Liège, and Principal Conductor of the OFUNAM Orchestra in Mexico.

Weinberg was one of the most prolific and inventive creative figures of the twentieth century. The reason for the neglect of his music is largely political, for Weinberg, as a bourgeois Jew, suffered under both Nazism and Soviet Communism. It is only since the barriers between the Soviet Union and the West have been lowered, that scholars worldwide are realising the importance of Weinberg's legacy.

The National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra is Poland's leading orchestra and has premiered works by some of the twentieth century's most significant composers.
