Pure joy - the blues just got very happy!
"Big Wide Grin" comes on the heels of Keb's critically acclaimed release "The Door", and reveals even another dimension of Keb's artistry and imagination.
"I wanted to depict family life as it really is, not as some ideal that no one really ever achieves" explains Keb'.
Musically diverse and lyrically enriching, "Big Wide Grin" is a meaningful and enjoyable album.
True to his trademark, Keb' serves the heart-felt sentiments of each original and interpreted composition with authenticity and integrity, delivering an album of real music for real people of all ages.
From the empowering and inspirational "Everybody Be Yoself" to the poignant "I Am Your Mother Too", "Big Wide Grin" is a true rarity - an album that channels positive messages through a variety of entertaining sounds that parents and children can enjoy together.
Smooth percussion and slide guitar paint an intimate backdrop for Keb's soulful pondering in "Infinite Eyes", an open expression of human wonderment and fascination.
"I Am Your Mother Too" is an outpouring of love and reassurance to a newly adopted child, with guest vocalist Brenda Russell, whose vocal work as the mother brings the heartwarming track tenderness and validity.
"Big Wide Grin" is also lots of fun. The frantic skat pace of "Flat Fleet Floogie" features the background vocals of actress Camryn Manheim (The Practice), and Keb's version of Joni Mitchell's classic "Big Yellow Taxi" is a delightful collaboration between Keb' and his son, Kevin Jr.
Keb's touching rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" is possibly only upstaged by his work on "America The Beautiful" - with soulful voice and acoustic slide guitar, Keb' delivers an inspired back-porch blues rendition of the traditional tune.
"Big Wide Grin" also features some of Keb's favorite songs including his signature renditions of "Love Train" and "Family Affair".
Keb' Mo' has won 2 Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album for "Just Like You" and "Slow Down".
