'Psyence Fiction', the excellent late '90s debut release from Unkle, remains a hotbed of futuristic sound FX; video game samples; and a merging of trip-hop sounds with rock ethics.

"'Psyence Fiction' was the excellent late '90s debut release from Unkle, a malleable collective helmed by electronic music pioneer & boundary-defying DJ, James Lavelle.

James was responsible for changing the face of electronic music when he, along with his Record label Mo' Wax, laid the foundation for the "chill out" phenomenon. 'Psyence Fiction' is considered to be one of the most important releases in the genre. It features an amazing cross-pollination of talents & styles that saw James joined by the likes of DJ Shadow; Badly Drawn Boy; Richard Ashcroft (The Verve); Ian Brown (The Stoen Roses); plus Thom Yorke (Radiohead).

Today, 'Psyence Fiction' remains a hotbed of futuristic sound FX; video game samples; and a merging of trip-hop sounds with rock ethics. It comes highly recommended to fans of the artists mentioned above. However, anyone into really innovative electronica & "groovy" music in general will rate this album too, and rightly so - it's magnificent!"
